Junior Infants
Welcome to Junior Infants – the very beginning of your child’s exciting journey through primary school! This year is all about settling in, making new friends, and exploring the world of learning in a happy and safe environment. In Junior Infants, children engage in play-based activities that help develop their language, early literacy, numeracy, and social skills.
Our classroom is a nurturing and friendly space where each child is supported with kindness and patience as they take their first steps in school life. We encourage curiosity, creativity, and confidence through fun, hands-on learning experiences. We understand how important this first year is for your child, and we are committed to making it positive, enjoyable, and full of memorable moments.
The Junior Infants teachers are Ms Gallagher & Ms Lynch. This year we have two Junior Infant Classes with 33 boys & girls in total. Some already have big brothers & sisters in the school and others are from new families. We look forward to a fantastic year ahead in Junior Infants!

Our Junior Infants have been busy thinking about something very special — our families!
We talked about all the people who love and care for us and how special our families are. We shared stories about the people who make us feel happy, safe and loved.
The children then created some beautiful artwork inspired by their families. Each picture is unique and full of colour, love and personality. 🥰
It was wonderful to see the children proudly talking about their families and all the things they love about them. Their artwork is a lovely reminder that, big or small, every family is special.

Junior Infants Get Creative with Elmer! 🐘🌈
Our Junior Infants had a wonderful time reading the colourful story of Elmer the Elephant. The children loved learning about Elmer and discussing what makes each of us special and unique.
Inspired by the story, the children then got creative and designed their very own elephants. They used lots of bright colours, patterns and imagination to create a fantastic collection of unique elephants.
It was wonderful to see the children enjoying the story, sharing their ideas and expressing their creativity. Our classroom is now full of colourful elephants — each one as special and different as the children who made them!

Humpty Dumpty Fun in Junior Infants 🥚🧱
Our Junior Infants have been having lots of fun learning about the traditional nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty!
The children listened to the story of Humpty Dumpty and enjoyed talking about the characters, what happened to Humpty, and how we could help him. We also developed our fine-motor skills by cutting, colouring and sticking as we created our own Humpty Dumpty pictures.
The children worked carefully with their scissors to cut out the different pieces and then put them together to make their very own Humpty Dumptys. There were lots of smiles and proud faces when the finished creations were complete!
It was a lovely opportunity to combine storytelling, creativity and fine-motor development while having lots of fun along the way. Well done, Junior Infants! 🌟
Cutting Out Houses 🏠✂️
Our Junior Infants have been busy developing their fine motor skills through a fun cutting activity!
The children carefully cut out different shapes and pieces to create their very own houses. They practised holding and controlling their scissors safely, following lines, and using their hands and fingers with care and concentration.
It was wonderful to see the children’s creativity shine as they designed and decorated their houses. Well done, Junior Infants! 🌟
Creating Mr Potato Head 🥔✂️
Our Junior Infants had lots of fun developing their fine motor skills while cutting out the different parts of Mr Potato Head!
The children carefully used their scissors to cut around the shapes before choosing where to place the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, arms and other features. They enjoyed using their imagination to create their own funny and colourful Mr Potato Heads.
This activity helped the children practise their scissor skills, hand-eye coordination and concentration while having lots of fun. Well done, Junior Infants! 🌟
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? 🐻🎨
Our Junior Infants have been enjoying the much-loved story Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
After reading the story together, the children had great fun creating their own versions of the story through art. They explored different colours and animals, using their imagination to design their very own pages.
It was wonderful to see the children’s creativity as they chose their colours, created their animals and shared their ideas with the class. They also enjoyed joining in with the repeated phrases from the story as we read together.
A big well done to our Junior Infants for their fantastic artwork and imaginative ideas! 🌈🐻
Me and My New Teacher 🖍️❤️
Our Junior Infants have been getting to know their new teacher and settling into school life. As part of this, the children created special drawings of themselves with their new teacher.
The children enjoyed using lots of colour and imagination to create their pictures. It was lovely to see the different details they included and hear them talk about their drawings and their new classroom experiences.
These beautiful pictures are a lovely way to celebrate the special relationships and happy memories being made in Junior Infants. 🌟
Maths Colour Monsters 👾🌈
Our Junior Infants had lots of fun exploring colour and maths with our colourful monsters!
The children practised recognising and matching colours while developing their early maths skills. They enjoyed sorting, counting and creating their own colourful monsters, using their imagination along the way.
It was a fun and hands-on activity that helped the children build their counting, sorting, matching and fine motor skills while learning through play.

Blackberry Picking and Jam Making 🫐🍦
Our Junior Infants had a wonderful time picking blackberries and exploring nature around us! The children enjoyed searching for ripe blackberries and carefully collecting them.
Back in the classroom, we used our blackberries to make our very own homemade jam. The children loved watching the berries change as we prepared and cooked them.
The best part was getting to taste our delicious jam with some ice cream! 🍦😋
It was a fun, hands-on experience where the children learned about where food comes from, while developing their curiosity, teamwork and sense of adventure. What a tasty treat! 🫐❤️
Creative Beginnings in Junior Infants 🌈🖍️
Our Junior Infants have been busy creating some beautiful artwork this September! It has been wonderful to see their creativity, imagination and enthusiasm shine through in every piece.
Each child has brought their own special ideas to their work. We are so proud of the beautiful art they have created and look forward to seeing their creativity grow throughout the year.
